Home Sleep Apnea Test | Sleep Study

A Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT) is an alternative to traditional in-lab sleep studies. Our Sleep Physician determines if you are a candidate for the HST, or if the in-lab study is required.

There are insurance companies requiring a HST before they will consider an “in lab” study. Our sleep center is an accredited sleep disorders clinic, and can help you complete the best course for your sleep problem(s). Your physician may recommend home sleep apnea testing if:

It is highly likely that you have moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea
You have no significant medical conditions other than the suspected obstructive sleep apnea
If you are required to have a home sleep test, our sleep technologist provides face-to-face instruction and education for the best results.

After receiving the equipment, you have this study at your home.
It is a diagnostic tool for generally healthy people with uncomplicated Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
There may be technical problems at home. If a sensor falls off, then you may not know it. If this happens, then the test may be unsuccessful.
HSTs are limited to sleep disordered breathing and are not appropriate for patients with other conditions such as, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and others that may necessitate more advanced monitoring. You should not have this test if there are other suspected sleep disorders besides obstructive sleep apnea.
*Even in appropriately selected patients, the HST may fail to confirm a diagnosis. If this happens, then you will require a full, in-lab sleep study.
All In-Lab Sleep Studies are attended by our Technicians. The Technician instructs the patients, provides proper placement of electrodes, scores the sleep study events, and provides the audio/visual/data, so our sleep physician can diagnose and prescribe the necessary treatment options.
