The Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) is a test that helps determine a person's level of alertness. It is often used to determine if a patient's treatment for a sleep disorder is effective. The test normally follows a nocturnal sleep study and in the morning the technician removes some of the wires from the sleep study. You will be asked to remain awake throughout the day. The test consists of four 40-minute trials that are conducted every two hours. During the trials, you will be sitting in a darkened room and you are encouraged to stay awake.
